Here is a great snap shot of where the population are living and how old they are.

Hope it helps in your understanding of marketing to this space.

Remember, Facebook is where people have conversations with people they know, either intimately or a little more loosely through groups etc. This sets it apart from other spaces such as Twitter where you are more likely to have a mix of knowns and unknowns.

Facebook Infographic

Listening and Acting on valid comments are two key concepts that many of our clients are dealing with at the moment.

Easier said than done, but at least there are some great web tools to help.

Straight out of the box, these tools are easy to install on any site and allow your audience to have a voice. Better yet they supply a mechanism to rate, reply to and act upon comments.

They all supply various levels of reporting / metrics and the cost is very low compared to custom built systems.

Here are three of the better systems, each have small differences but all worth a look:

http://getsatisfaction.com/

From $19 / month

http://www.kampyle.com/

From $49 / month

http://uservoice.com

From $19 / month

If you know of others that have worked for your business, reply below with your suggestions.

As consultants within the ICT / Web Industry, Etch are consistently asked who are a the best builders or agencies to work on a web project. We work tirelessly to ensure strategy and planning have been sculpted to exceed business objectives, so we’re precious about who then builds the solution.

Quality creative design and IT development are essential and the following companies are a few of our suggestions based on personal experience and industry knowledge. To know which one to use requires an in-depth knowledge of the scale and type of project. For instance some of these agencies are brilliant creatives whereas others are far better builders of web applications etc.

Enjoy looking around, we’d be happy to help:

These handles would allow objects to travel around social networks more rapidly because people can pick them up more easily.

A quick casual definition of Social Objects:

Something we can share

Normally has interest or relevance to our ego

Something to have a conversation around.

Physical, abstract, visual, aural… anything really

You, your t-shirt, the wine you drink and the restaurant you went to on the weekend

The latest version of Crikey.com has been launched recently and, along with many other Australian businesses, they have chosen to use WordPress as their Content Management System (CMS).

This is inline with our common suggestion to clients as WordPress delivers so much for so little with very few disadvantages. It’s mainly a blogging engine, but has great results for business:

• To start with the CMS is free, well built and fast to install. Yes > good, fast AND cheap…
• It’s web standard’s compliant meaning that it’ll will work for lots of people and browsers
• Has blog management including comments for you to talk to the world < that’s two-way, not one
• Allows design layers “themes” to be placed easily over your content to change a look as easily as Melbourne weather
• Has a HUGE community of people trying to make it even better everyday, so you can find lots of little tools to create galleries, SEO tools, sitemaps… anything.

Some quick examples of people using it:

http://magazine.wsj.com/ – Wall Street Journal
http://flickout.com/ – What movie?
http://healogix.com/ – Simple Business site
http://www.good.is/ – Magazine site

So whether your objectives are to either get something stable up quickly to test a market niche or build a microsite to support a new product, WordPress comes along to save to day. If it can handle Crikey’s audience it is more than capable of running many businesses with far less content production.

I just cant believe more people aren’t using it in Australia.

Even for design agencies, it means less time (and budget) spent on IT development and more time thinking about strategy and planning, the very items we should all be perfecting to ensure our client’s long term futures.

Any questions? Need help? – just contact us, we love to chat.
