The latest version of Crikey.com has been launched recently and, along with many other Australian businesses, they have chosen to use WordPress as their Content Management System (CMS).
This is inline with our common suggestion to clients as WordPress delivers so much for so little with very few disadvantages. It’s mainly a blogging engine, but has great results for business:
• To start with the CMS is free, well built and fast to install. Yes > good, fast AND cheap…
• It’s web standard’s compliant meaning that it’ll will work for lots of people and browsers
• Has blog management including comments for you to talk to the world < that’s two-way, not one
• Allows design layers “themes” to be placed easily over your content to change a look as easily as Melbourne weather
• Has a HUGE community of people trying to make it even better everyday, so you can find lots of little tools to create galleries, SEO tools, sitemaps… anything.
Some quick examples of people using it:

http://flickout.com/ – What movie?
http://healogix.com/ – Simple Business site
http://www.good.is/ – Magazine site
So whether your objectives are to either get something stable up quickly to test a market niche or build a microsite to support a new product, WordPress comes along to save to day. If it can handle Crikey’s audience it is more than capable of running many businesses with far less content production.
I just cant believe more people aren’t using it in Australia.
Even for design agencies, it means less time (and budget) spent on IT development and more time thinking about strategy and planning, the very items we should all be perfecting to ensure our client’s long term futures.
